Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga is on the verge of breaking the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) record for most goals scored in a single season with only five games remaining in the regular season.
The Kansas City striker is leading the Golden Boot race with 16 goals, followed by Zambian striker Barbra Banda, who plays for the Orlando Pride, with 12.
Sam Kerr currently holds the record with 18 goals while playing for the Chicago Red Stars in 2019. She did the same in 2017, scoring 17 goals while playing for Gotham FC, breaking Kim Little’s record of 16 goals set in 2014.
Temwa remained with only three goals to break a 2019 record, which Kerr achieved.
“Those are good stories to read and achieve in life, but my focus is to help my team do well in all competitions,” told BolaNews.
“Those are just bonuses one gets but it is not what I am looking for. You know what? These things can affect you when you focus on them; they should just follow you.”
