Ascent Soccer Academy and Malawi Women’s National Team striker Faith Chinzimu left Malawi this morning to join her new club, Häcken FC of Sweden, after agreeing to a three-year deal.
Chinzimu said she signed the deal with the UEFA Women’s Champions League side months ago, but the club had been waiting for her to turn 18, which she did in February this year.
Speaking at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe, Chinzimu said it had always been her dream to play outside Malawi.
“I am happy my dream has come true. I‘ll work hard so that I feature in the first eleven. I know with God it will be possible.
“I also ask senior players to help me adapt well just like they helped Rose Kadzere [now playing at the French side Montpellier],” she said.
In April this year, Chinzimu traveled to Denmark for trials with several top-flight Scandinavian clubs. She also spent two weeks training with FC Nordsjælland in Farum before heading to Sweden.
Chinzimu was part of the Scorchers squad that won the COSAFA Cup in 2023. She also featured for the team in March this year, scoring in a 3-2 victory over Zambia in a friendly match.
She won the Golden Boot at the 2024 Goshen National Championship and also scored against the youth teams of Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Brighton during the Rey Cup last summer.
Ascent Soccer director Thom Nkolongo said he is happy that Faith has secured a professional club in Sweden and hopes she will do well.
