Zambia Women’s National Team defender Lushomo Mweemba is on the mend, but she will be out for at least three more weeks.
She suffered an ankle injury while playing for her Green Buffaloes side in a FAZ women’s league match last month.
As a result, the 22-year-old missed Zambia’s two friendly matches against South Korea, which they lost 5-2 and 5-0.
Sources close to the player, however, have informed BolaNews that she is gradually regaining her fitness but will need at least three more weeks to fully recover.
Zambians are hopeful the defender recovers in time for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be held in New Zealand and Australia in three months time.
Coach Bruce Mwape said after the team lost 10-2 on aggregate to South Korea in a friendly that his defense was poor. He claimed it was owing to the absence of Lushomo and Magret Belemu, who were both un available for the outing.
Belemu was unable to join the team due to visa glitches at her new base in China.
Meanwhile, FAZ announced that the girls will camp in Spain and play a series of friendlie.
They will play Ireland and Switzerland in June before ending their preparations in July with a match against two-time world champions Germany.
Zambia will compete in its first Women’s World Cup. The competition will begin on July 20th, 2023, and will end on August 20th, 2023.
The Copper Queens are in Group C alongside Spain, Costa Rica, and Japan.
