Konkola Blades Queens head coach Enala Phiri says her team’s primary mission in their debut National Women’s Super League season is to avoid relegation.

Her side is on eighth position with 27 points from 16 league matches before the league went on recess.

The Queens have impressed with spirited performances despite fielding one of the youngest squads in the league—players aged between 17 and 25.

Phiri is encouraged by her team’s overall progression to maintain their top-flight status.

“It’s not an easy competition; it’s very competitive,” she said in an interview with Bola News. “As a young team, we just have to keep our focus. Every team has given us a run, but we’ve also put in our best.”

She emphasized that their main target is building a solid foundation.

“My goal in this league is to survive and stay in it. It’s a very new team, with very young girls ” she said.

Phiri praised her players’ discipline and commitment to her tactical plan.

“In terms of the play, I’m happy with what they are doing. We just have to keep improving.”

She added that each week’s primary focus is to build on their good performance so far.

“We should focus on the next match; that’s what is important. We rise up and prepare for what’s coming.”

Konkola Blades Queens remain determined to defy expectations and secure a safe finish in their maiden Super League campaign.
