Indeni Roses defeated Zesco Ndola Girls 2-1 in the Ndola derby with the defending champions registering their second defeat of the season in a Women’s Super League week 12 fixture played at Indeni Sports Complex on Saturday.
This is their derby win for Indeni Roses in four years and their first ever win on home ground.
After a 7-0 victory over YASA last week, Zesco Ndola Girls, looked to extend their winning momentum.
The defeat, has left the Ndola-based side, in second position with 27 points, five points behind log leaders Green Buffaloes Women’s FC.
However, reacting to the result, head coach William Zulu admitted that his girls underrated their opponents.
“We allowed them in the first half; they dominated the play. They were playing long balls, which we couldn’t manage. We allowed two silly goals,” he said.
“In the second half we came with a strategy, and we started playing our game, though that was not really our usual game. We played equivalent to what they were playing, and we overpowered them and scored one goal,” expressed the coach.
The Zesco Ndola Girls boss believes the team will bounce back to winning ways.
“It’s a lesson to our players. We were very complacent about them, thinking we would just easily beat them. They prepared, yes, and we also prepared, but the attitude of the players was not good, so we go back to the drawing board, sit down, and see where we went wrong, and we will come back to our winning ways,” concluded the coach.
The defending champions will seek to bounce back to winning ways in pursuit of their title defense.
