Indeni Roses head coach Rex Chanda has called for continued consistency from his side after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zanaco Ladies in Ndola ended the visitors’ 14-match unbeaten run in the ZPL Women’s Super League.
The narrow win keeps Indeni Roses fourth on the log with 49 points, level with Zanaco Ladies, as the race at the top of the table remains finely balanced. Chanda described the result as “very sweet”, noting that his players showed discipline and resilience despite creating only one clear chance, which they converted and defended resolutely until the final whistle.
“We may not have played very well, but we defended the goal and got the three points. The girls are disciplined, especially in defence, and the consistency is there,” Chanda said, while stressing the need to improve goal scoring as the season enters a decisive phase.
At the summit, Green Buffaloes Women climbed to first place on 53 points after edging Green Eagles Women 2-1, leapfrogging Zesco Ndola Girls, who remain firmly in the title hunt on 52 points following a dominant 5-1 win over Amazing Grace FC. Zanaco Ladies sit third on goal difference, tied with Indeni Roses on 49 points, while Red Arrows Women occupy fifth spot with 45 points.
Further down the standings, the mid-table remains congested, with Green Eagles Women, Nchanga Rangers Queens and Konkola Blades Queens still jostling for strong finishes.
At the foot of the table, relegation-threatened ZISD FC remain 17th on 12 points after a goalless draw with Elite Ladies. Despite the missed opportunity to claim maximum points at home, ZISD head coach Nasha Kaaya expressed confidence in his team’s survival prospects, citing visible improvement in recent performances.
“Our target is to survive relegation. We’ve improved in the second round and we’ll keep working on the areas that need attention,” Kaaya said.
