Copper Queens attacker Grace Chanda, who was ruled out of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup due to illness, is scheduled to return to her club today, where she will undergo medical examinations.

The 26-year-old Madrid CFF attacker has also been left out of coach Bruce Mwape’s latest squad for the back-to-back international friendly games against Morocco on September 22 and 26 in Rabat ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualifiers.

Bolanews sources have revealed that Chanda, whose illness was not disclosed for privacy reasons, has left the country today for Spain.

Chanda, who was voted the runner-up for the 2022 CAF Women’s Footballer of the Year Award, which Asisat Oshoala of Nigeria won, will be looking to bounce back to her usual best after missing the World Cup.

Her absence from the Copper Queens squad was a huge blow, and Zambians will be hoping she gets back on her feet as soon as possible.

Zambia will face Mali in the second round of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games Qualifiers in October.

The winner of that match will face either Ghana or Benin in the third round of qualifiers, the final phase before securing a spot in next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Last season, Chanda scored three goals in 11 starts out of 26 games for Madrid CFF in the Spanish Women’s League.

It was her first season at the club after joining them on a two-year deal last year from BIIK Kazgurt.
