While many people know him for his role in hit songs like Coca-Cola, Body Lotion, Picture, and others, Kent Singoyi, popularly known as Orga Kent from the Organised Family Music Group, has started a women’s football club to help young girls in his community avoid early pregnancies, drug abuse, and other bad habits.
Singoyi, 44, now a professional coach, founded the club in 2021 and named it Student Girls FC. The club competed in the Lusaka provincial league before being promoted to the FAZ Women’s National League, where they are currently competing.
“I started my coaching career way back, I can say maybe 10 years ago. I did my FAZ E and D coaching courses, and now I’m pursuing a CAF C,” he disclosed to BolaNews in an exclusive interview. “And then in 2021, I came up with a women’s team. We started in the provincial league, and then we were promoted to the FAZ National League.”
Growing up in Mutedere, Singoyi has always loved football and even played back in high school.
“I used to play football at Munali Secondary School. At some point, I was almost picked to play for Zambia National under 17 and 20 but because of injuries, I just shifted to music,” he revealed.
“Girls are vulnerable” – Singoyi
Singoyi has observed that girls are the most vulnerable in society, particularly in Mutendere, and hopes to help them avoid bad habits like early marriages, unplanned pregnancies, and drug abuse through women’s football, which is becoming increasingly popular in the country.
“The most vulnerable in our society when it comes to all these vices are girls. So, our dream is to help them avoid these things and help keep the girl child in school. We also encourage those that dropped out of school to go back and continue their education.”
Running a women’s team alone can be difficult; therefore, Singoyi, who is using his influence to help the young girls in his community, has appealed to well-wishers to come on board and assist him financially.
“Its not just a game; its a unifying factor and also an employment opportunity for these young girls. Those who can should chip in and sponsor us and help change the lives of these girls,” he concluded.
