It was a disappointing start from the Scorchers of Malawi who were demolished 5-0 in their opening FIFA Series match against Australia in Kenya on Saturday.
But Malawi head coach Lovemore Fazili is happy with the match saying it was a learning experience playing against a big club like Australia.
Fazili said their main agenda is to learn as they prepare for WAFCON finals in Morocco.
“Lessons learnt, of course it was a tough game playing against an experienced side. They always capitalise on mistakes. We made some mistakes which resulted in conceding a goal. The goalkeeper wasn’t bad, but in some situations she could have done better to avoid some of those goals,” said Fazili.
He added that the technical bench will address errors made before their second match against India on Wednesday.
“There is a very big gap between the teams we face in the COSAFA region and Australia. They are experienced players competing at a high level in Europe, but we have learnt a lot,” he added.
The scorchers of Malawi were without their key players, sisters Temwa and Tabitha Chawinga.
