The FIFA Council has confirmed that the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Cup will be held in 2028. This first edition will feature a competitive and inclusive format with 19 of the world’s top clubs.

The tournament will begin with a play-in phase, where six clubs will compete. The three winners from this phase will join 13 other clubs in the next stage, which will be organized into four groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group will then advance to the knockout rounds.

The allocation of slots for the inaugural edition will be as follows:

  • AFC, CAF, Concacaf, and CONMEBOL: Two direct slots and one play-in slot each.
  • UEFA: Five direct slots and one play-in slot.
  • OFC: One play-in slot.

Additionally, the FIFA Council has approved the creation of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, set to begin in 2026. In this competition, the six winners of the confederation club competitions will vie for a new global title during the years when the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup is not held.

The preliminary stage of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup will consist of the following matchups:

  • AFC champions will host OFC champions in Round 1.
  • The winner of Round 1 will then face the CAF champions in Round 2.
  • The winners of Round 2 will progress to the semi-finals, where they will play the UEFA champions, while the Concacaf champions will meet the CONMEBOL champions.

The Final Four, including the semi-finals, third-place play-off, and final, will take place on the following dates:

  • FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2026: 28 January 2026 to 1 February 2026
  • FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2027: 27 January to 31 January 2027
  • FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2029: 24 January to 28 January 2029
