Kamfinsa Blues Eagles FC head coach Natasha Kashinga has reaffirmed her ambition of guiding the club to a top-eight finish in the ZPL Women’s Super League, despite a frustrating first half of the season.

In a Week 19 fixture, Kamfinsa registered a nil-all away draw against Green Eagles women at NASDEC Sports Complex on Sunday.

Kamfinsa Blues Eagles are 11th on the table with 19 points from 19 matches played so far.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Kashinga admitted her side endured lapses in the opening half of the season but insisted the team remains on course to retain its Super League status and push higher up the standings in the second round.

“We have not performed well,” Kashinga said. “When you look at our position on the table, it calls for a lot of attention. We made a lot of mistakes, which we plan to work on in this second round.”

Reflecting on the draw against ZISD FC, in a Week 18 fixture, Kashinga acknowledged the challenge posed by the visitors, despite their position in the relegation zone.

“We plan to end well” – Kashinga.

“We understood that ZISD is a strong side. Even though they are in the relegation zone, they attack and defend well,” she explained. “Our approach was to capitalise on their weaknesses and disrupt their game plan before they could settle, especially since we were playing at home. It was never going to be an easy game, but our aim was to get maximum points.”

Looking ahead, Kashinga remains optimistic that Kamfinsa Blues Eagles can still achieve a strong finish to the season.

“Our wish as a team is to finish in single digits on the table, at least between positions one and eight,” she said. “We didn’t start well, but we plan to end well and survive the league.”

Kamfinsa Blues Eagles will be looking to translate that optimism into results as the Women’s Super League entered a decisive phase in the second round.
