The Zambia Women’s National Team is set to take on Comoros in their final Group B match of the 2023 Cosafa Women’s Championship on Tuesday.

The Copper Queens, who began their campaign with a 0-0 stalemate against Mozambique, will look to advance to the next round after thrashing Angola 4-1 on Sunday.

Speaking to FAZ media ahead of the match, assistant coach Florence Mwila called on the team to aim at finishing at the top of the group as they plan to defend the Cosafa title they won last year.

“The preparations are going well; everyone understands their role,” she said. “We know what lies ahead of us, we know what is at stake, and we know that the last game is a must-win for us to finish top in the group. What we want is to finish the table.”

She added, “We still need to go in and collect the maximum points. We don’t want to qualify for the next round by negotiations. We need to plan to win so that we come out of the group stage without calculations.”

‘we don’t need to relax’

Mwila said the team should not underestimate their opponents because the group is still open.

“Football is a whole different game; it changes. So we don’t need to relax because our opponents have lost,” she warned.

“We have to approach the game as hard as possible because it’s not going to be an easy one. They also want to get a point. So they will also come with full force, so it won’t be an easy game.”
