Charles Bwale, a former head coach of Zambia’s women’s national team, believes the Copper Queens can win the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024 if they all play together.

Prior to the start of the competition, Bwale stressed that the unity and harmony of the players and technical bench will be crucial to Zambia’s success.

“This is a team with incredible potential, but football is not about individual brilliance alone. It’s about coming together for one common purpose,” Bwale said.

As the first coach to lead Zambia to a WAFCON tournament, Bwale said he was confident in the current crop of players, stating that they have the depth and caliber to compete with the best in the continent.

“They just need to believe”- Bwale.

“Zambia has enough talent to propel the team to the top prize. We have players who have excelled on international stages and are now bringing valuable experience back home,” he noted“

Regarding Zambia’s Group A opponents, which include hosts Morocco, DR Congo, and Senegal, Bwale said he is confident that coach Nora Häuptle’s strategy will enable the Copper Queens progress.

“Yes, it’s a tough group, but I have faith in this team under Nora. They just need to believe in themselves and work as one unit to overcome each hurdle.”

In addition, he conveyed a clear warning about Zambia’s defensive obligations.

“From number 11 right down to the goalkeeper, everyone must defend as if they are rising lions — hungry, fierce, and determined to protect their territory,” he stressed. “We need a mindset where every player fights for the team, whether they are attacking or defending. That’s the mentality that will take Zambia far in this tournament.“

On July 5, 2025, in Rabat, the Copper Queens play the hosts, Morocco, in the opening match of the WAFCON.
