Charity Mubanga, a striker for Zesco Ndola Girls, is confident about making the Copper Queens final squad for the women’s football tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Mubanga is a part of the provisional squad assembled by coach Bruce Mwape and the technical bench have to select eighteen best players.

The team is currently holding a local camp, with the final preparatory camp set to help in Europe prior to the start of the tournament. Zambia is in Group B alongside Germany, Australia, and the USA.

Speaking to the media, Mubanga reveals that she is aiming to make the squad despite the high level of competition.

The 22-year-old believes that she is capable of making the final list as she wants to fulfil her dream of playing in a high-profile tournament.

“Everybody is working hard and fighting for their position,” she said. “Preparations are going great. Competition is really high, and obviously there will be a little bit of intimidation, but at the end of the day, I have to put in the extra work.”

“It would mean a lot to me because it is something I have always wanted. Every player wishes to do—to be there and compete at the highest level. It will be a huge honour for me to go there and compete at the highest level,” Mubanga added.

The majority of Copper Queens foreign based players are expected to join camp in Europe during the last preparatory stages.

Zambia will open its campaign against the USA on July 24 in Nice before playing Australia on July 27. The Copper Queens will shift base to St. Etienne for the final group match against Germany on July 30.
