Key players for the United States of America Women’s National Team (USWNT) have been sidelined by an increasing number of injuries with fewer than 100 days till the Olympic Games in Paris begin.

On July 25, the United States’ Olympic Group B will take place against Zambia. Additionally, they face Australia and Germany.

The latest casualties are 25-year-old Gotham FC defender Tierna Davidson, who was a forced substitute in the match against the Washington Spirit on Saturday with a suspected hamstring issue, and San Diego Wave forward Alex Morgan, who limped off the game against Orlando Pride early with an ankle injury following a goal-line tackle.

Morgan, 34, has played two matches in the 2024 SheBelieves Cup. The well-traveled former Lyon and Tottenham striker has so far played four matches in the NWSL, recording one assist.

Morgan finished the 2012 Olympics with three goals and four assists as a member of the gold-winning team.

The other players are forward Jaedyn Shaw and defender Naomi Girma of the San Diego Wave, who played 58 minutes on Friday for San Diego.

Girma has been hard at work as she recovers from a muscle injury sustained during the USWNT’s SheBelieves Cup match against Japan.

All four players are in contention for a place in head coach Emma Hayes’ 18-player Olympic squad for the tournament in France.

The injury setback should be exciting news for Copper Queens coach Bruce Mwape, whose squad comprises trailblazers like Racheal Kundananji and Barbra Banda.
