Barbra Banda has set a new NWSL record by scoring 11 goals in her first 11 games, becoming the first player in the competition’s history.
The Zambian international scored her eleventh goal in Orlando Pride’s 3-0 victory over Angel City FC on Sunday evening, with Adriana scoring the other two.
This remarkable achievement follows Banda’s previous record-setting performance, where she scored a brace in a 6-0 win against Utah Royals, becoming the first player to score 10 goals in the opening 10 games of an NWSL season.
Banda’s latest goal extends her record, solidifying her status as a groundbreaking player in the league.
As the Olympics approach, Banda will be a key figure in Bruce Mwape’s squad. She made history in her Olympic debut by becoming the first player, male or female, to score back-to-back hattricks during the Tokyo Olympics.
Currently, Banda is tied at the top of the NWSL scoring chart with Malawian international Temwa Chawinga, both boasting 11 goals. Sophia Smith follows closely with 10 goals, setting the stage for an intense battle for the Golden Boot among these high-scoring athletes.
