Copper Queens and Orlando Pride striker Barbra Banda has dedicated her FIFPRO Award to all African players.
Banda was named in the 2024 FIFPRO World Best XI, becoming the first African female to achieve the feat, following a successful season in her debut season with Orlando Pride last year.
The 25-year-old and her teammate Marta received their shields from FIFPRO this week.
In accepting her award, the elated Zambian captain attributed being named in the Best XI to the hard work of her teammates. She said she has been inspired by the achievement, as it was decided by her fellow football players.
“This means a lot to me and to the entire team because all these achievements come through the team, the hard work and everyone who is involved in the management [and] my fellow players,” Banda said.
“I feel so inspired being voted by [my] fellow players; it means a lot for me being recognised by them. I think I really appreciate their support.”
Banda has dedicated the award to Africans, as she hopes more players will be inspired.
“I think Africa, the continent itself, I think they must be proud and happy for me because this goes to all the Africans all around the world, so I think they should get inspired and hope to win more,” she concluded.
