South African women’s national team has continued to prepare for the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which they are looking to defend after winning it in 2022.
The 12-nation tournament will take place from July 5th to July 26th, 2025, in Morocco.
Last Friday, CAF held the tournament draw, which placed South Africa in Group C against Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania.
Banyana will face Jamaica at Montego Bay on 29 November and on 2 December 2024. They have played against the Reggae Girls just once, in an international friendly match that ended 1-1 in 2019.
They’ll be trying to end the year on a high note after losing 5-0 and 2-1 to England and Norway in their previous two friendlies last month.
Meanwhile, Hildah Magaia and Karabo Dhlamini will be absent owing to injuries, and Thubelihle Shamase and Antonia Maponya will take their places.
According to SAFA’s statement, Lonathemba Mhlango has also been called up to replace Sibulele Holweni, who was unable to participate owing to illness.
