After suffering a severe knee injury on the eve of last year’s European championships, the Putellas winner had not played for Spain since July 2022 but announced her return in style with a goal.

Her injury kept her off the pitch for a while. She missed out on last season’s Spanish Women’s League golden boot after scoring only one goal in five appearances.

On Thursday night, the Ballon d’Or holder scored Spain’s second goal in style against Panama to announce her return.

Her goal came in the 22nd minute after playing after chipping the ball over Panama goalkeeper Yenith Bailey.

Putellas played 62 minutes in her comeback match before being substituted with Spain leading 6-0.

The 29-year-old reigning FIFA best footballer of the Year will now look to re-establish her scoring form ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be held in New Zealand and Australia starting July 20, 2023.
