Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes the team’s dominant win over PSV Eindhoven has provided a boost in motivation for upcoming matches.
The Gunners delivered an outstanding performance in the Champions League round of 16, securing a 7-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night.
This win marked Arsenal’s largest away victory in the Champions League, as they triumphed over the Dutch champions at their home stadium.
Arteta’s team controlled the match and is now on the verge of advancing to the competition’s quarter-finals.
Arteta’s reaction
Reflecting on the result, Arteta expressed his appreciation for the team’s effort, highlighting their strong performance.
“I really enjoyed the match, thank you to the players for the performance they put in on a big night for us against a really good side. They way they went through in the last round against Juventus was really impressive so the manner that we have done it, the way that we have played, the goals that we scored; thank you because it was a special night,” he said.
The former Arsenal player emphasized that this victory has instilled confidence in the team.
“Well, it obviously gives us a lot of joy, confidence and belief and then in football, it’s not what we did three days ago, or today,” he said. “It’s about what we are going to do tomorrow or at Old Trafford, how we behave and able to win again, and that’s it. Enjoy tonight because it was a very impressive performance, an unbelievable score, so we deserve that and now take that and keep improving as a team.”
Next, Arsenal will return to Premier League action on Sunday to face Manchester United before hosting PSV Eindhoven in the return leg next Wednesday at the Emirates Stadium.
