Arsenal outclassed German outfit Bayern Munich to maintain their perfect start in the Champions League with a 3-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Gunners took the lead in the first half when Jurrien Timber headed in Bukayo Saka’s corner, before the visitors leveled through Lennart Karl in the 31st minute.
Substitute Noni Madueke restored Arsenal’s lead in the 68th minute, and Gabriel Martinelli added a third to seal the win for the home side.
A stunning second-half performance earned Arsenal the three points, moving them to the top of the UEFA Champions League table.
The Gunners have maintained a smooth start in the competition, remaining unbeaten in all matches played so far.
Reacting to the result, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised his players for their consistency.
“Well, first of all, I have to praise our players because I think they had an incredible match against, in my opinion, the best team in Europe. Individually, we were immense to resolve all the challenges that these teams bring to the table,” he said.
“Well, we’ve certainly been very, very consistent in the competition so far, but it’s just the beginning. We are so pleased with what we’ve seen today. Again, the energy that we created in the stadium, what the team transmits, the energy that we bring, and the quality that we play with. It’s incredible, and we have to maintain that because it’s very early,” added the coach.
“Well, they are a top side. I think they haven’t lost in 20 or 21 games, and you see the record. So you know the difficulty of that. We managed to do that in one game; that’s great, and that shows as well the capacity that we have,” concluded the coach.
The Gunners will now turn their attention to their next match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
