Sakala tipped to help Rangers beat rivals in derby

Former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson says Fashion Sakala could offer problems to Celtic with his blistering pace when Rangers take on archrivals in the semifinals of the Scottish Cup.

The Ibrox legend has suggested that manager Michael Beale should drop striker Alfredo Morelos in tomorrow’s Old Firm derby and start Sakala.

Ferguson has advised Beale to play the Zambian rapid forward through the middle as his blistering pace is a key trait that can seriously threaten the Celtic defense.

“I would have gone with Fashion Sakala up front,” Ferguson wrote in his Daily Record column. “I believe Sakala’s blistering pace can cause Celtic’s central defence some serious problems.”

The former captain adds that Sakala can fit well in place of Morelos. Ferguson believes the Colombian is now at a point where Rangers might be ‘better off without him’.

“Obviously, that’s a big call because it means leaving Alfredo Morelos on the bench and even though I’ve always been a big supporter of the Colombian even I am now reaching the conclusion Rangers might be better off without him.”

Ferguson explains more about what needs to be done for the Rangers to beat Celtic

Ferguson notes that Rangers need players who are determined especially in the final third. He believes its something which has been missing in the previous meetings with Celtic.

“What Rangers need are players who are determined to stand up and make a difference in the final third…. Because that’s exactly what was missing in the last game at Celtic Park,” he stated.

In the last match, Sakala played as a central striker while Morelos was deployed in the right wing. Rangers in that match went down 2-0 to Aberdeen in the domestic league.

The Zambian attacker has scored 8 goals in 24 Scottish Premiership League matches. He has also provided 7 assists so far.

However, Sakala is yet to register a goal in the Scottish Cup from the four previous appearances in the competition.

Celtic aims to claim a domestic treble with a win at the national stadium while Rangers hope to clinch their first trophy under Beale.
