Fashion Sakala sets new record in AFC Champions League

He has become the first Zambian ever to score in the Asian Champions League.

Fashion Sakala scored and assisted in Al Fayha’s 3-1 win over Ahal in Group A of the AFC Champions League on Tuesday.

Sakala’s goal made him the first Zambian to score in the competition, as well as the youngest from Southern Africa to do so at the age of 26.

With their win over Ahal, Al Fayha moved into third place in the group, six points behind leaders Al-Ain, who have already qualified for the next round, and Pakhtaakor Tashkent, who are second with seven points.

Al-Burtuqali and Sakala will now look to finish second and advance to the next round when they face Pakhtaakor Tashkent in the final group stage match next Tuesday.

Al Fayha defeated Pakhtaakor Tashkentwon 2-0 in the first leg at home and will be favourites heading into the return leg.

In his five appearances so far in the AFC Champions League, Sakala has three goal involvements (1 goal and 2 assists.

Since joining Al Fayha from Rangers FC in August of this year, he has scored seven goals and assisted four times in 21 appearances across all competitions.

The Chipolopolo forward is also Al Fyaha’s top scorer in the Saudi Pro League, with six goals and two assists in 14 games.
