Zambian striker Fashion Sakala wrote a heartfelt message to football fans following the conclusion of the Saudi Arabian Pro League.
He missed Al-Fayha’s 1-0 loss against Al-Ahli on Monday night, with Brazilian attacker Roberto Firmino scoring the only goal.
Sakala scored 22 goals and 9 assists in 40 matches across all competitions for Al-Fayha in his debut season. He helped the team finish ninth in the final log standings with 44 points.
Throughout the season, Al-Fayha won 11 games, drew 11, and lost 12 in the league. They also reached the round of 16 in the AFC Champions League, with Sakala scoring three goals in eight matches.
The former Rangers FC striker played 31 matches in the league, recording 19 goals and 6 assists. He was the third-highest-scorer in the league behind Cristiano Ronaldo with 35 goals, and Aleksandar Mitrovic with 28 goals.
Sakala’s message to fans
Sakala has thanked his family and supporters for their support in his first season at Al-Fayha after joining Rangers.
“As my first season in Saudi Arabia has come to an end, I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude for each and every one of you who has stood by me throughout the season,” Sakala said.
“My big thanks go to my family, fans of Al-Fayha football club, my Zambian fans, and all my supporters around the world; your love knows no bounds. Your support transcends borders and distances; thank you for always being there.”
The forward is not part of the Chipolopolo squad that will take on Morocco and Tanzania next month after he was snubbed by head coach Avram Grant.
His omission has ignited speculation, which was further escalated by a leaked audio where the striker accused Grant of biased selection influenced by his agent, Nir Karin.
On Monday, the gaffer refuted the allegations, labeling them as ‘complete lies’.
