In his debut season with Al Fayha, Fashion Sakala established himself as one of the most lethal finishers in the star-studded Saudi Pro League, scoring 19 league goals and finishing third on the top scorers’ chart behind Aleksandar Mitrovic and Cristiano Ronaldo.
That 19-goal harvest was the Chipolopolo striker’s most prolific since leaving Zambia for overseas football. Sakala’s journey abroad began at Spartak Moscow 2 when he left Zanaco. There, he scored once in four games during his first season, followed by three goals in three appearances the next season, before improving his tally to 10 goals in 31 matches.
Sakala’s rising form in Russia earned him a move to KV Oostende in Belgium, where he netted 5, 8, and 16 league goals across three seasons. He later joined Scottish giants Rangers FC, scoring 9 goals in his first season and 12 in his final campaign before making the move to Saudi Arabia.
Last season proved to be his most difficult in Saudi Arabia, as he managed only eight league goals in 31 matches, a campaign hampered by inconsistent form and injuries.
He has, however, picked himself up in the current season and is now just nine goals shy of matching his highest league scoring tally, with 12 games remaining.
Sakala is in a rich vein of form, having scored seven goals in his last eight games. No doubt, he will be looking to add to his tally when his side faces Neom SC in the league tonight.
Given his current form, it seems likely that Sakala could surpass his 19-goal mark from his debut season. He is tonight expected to lead Al Fayha’s attack when they take on Neom SC in the Saudi Pro League.
