A football coach, Nebert Phiri, has called for the inclusion of psychologists on the national team’s technical benches.
Phiri, now head coach at ZPL National League side River Plate, explains that players need the services of the psychologists from a tender age.
He stated that this will help players stay focused on their dream.
“Talented football players who can bring back the fans to watch football in the thousands and thousands in stadiums need psychologists’ help,” he said.
“We need psychologists’ and psychiatrists’ help to speak and empower these boys and girls so that they grow in harmony with their dreams.”
Phiri also says the lack of a psychologist on the technical bench of the national team shows how much the team lags behind.
“Today, even the Chipolopolo Boys have no psychologists on their technical bench, which means Zambian football is behind by almost 30 years from North African football,” he said.
He added, “We need a football player who knows his value and not one who is intimidated. We need a system that must protect talented football players and not those who are desperate to play just because they have failed in everything.”
