Bailly was sent off 15 minutes into his team’s Coupe de France match against French fourth division team Hyeres two weeks ago after raising his boot into the chest of an opposition player from Senegal, Moussa N’Diaye during his club’s 2-0 victory.
N’Diaye was later rushed to the hospital, where he was reported to have suffered broken ribs as well as liver and lung damage as a result of the challenge and will be out for seven months to recover.
According to Le Provence, Bailly’s dangerous kick has prompted the French football federation’s disciplinary committee to impose a seven-match suspension on the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations winner.
The suspension aggravates the defender’s frustrations because, at the start of the season, he was expected to regain form by playing more frequently after a lack of game time in Manchester.
He has so far already served two matches of his ban, Marseille’s two-goal victories over Troyes and Lorient in the league, and will now be ineligible for the French side’s next five domestic clashes.
Baily has only made 12 appearances for Marseille this season in all competitions after missing seven games due to leg injuries and this long ban will add to this frustration.
