Barcelona were held to a 0-0 draw at Getafe on Sunday in La Liga as Xavi Hernandez slammed the home side for their bad pitch.
The Catalans currently hold a healthy lead at the top of the table but failed to win after their arch-rivals Real Madrid’s victory over Cadiz on Saturday.
The draw meant that their gap was now down to 11 points with nine games remaining. It also left relegation-threatened Getafe four points clear of the drop zone.
Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez complained about the state of the pitch at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez stadium.
“The state of the pitch hurt us. Yesterday, we trained on the dry field. It was very difficult to play on that…. And it’s bad for the show because the ball gets stuck, and even for Getafe,” Xavi said.
Xavi is not worried about the consecutive scoreless games for his Barcelona
The former Barcelona midfielder, however, stated that despite the bad pitch, he wouldn’t use it as an excuse for his team’s failure to win the game.
“It’s essential that it’s in good condition. It’s not an excuse; we weren’t accurate; we took chances but we could not finish them.” He said after the game
Xavi further added that he wasn’t worried about his side going three consecutive games across all competitions without scoring a goal.
“That can happen, and it’s also been a while since we let in goals. It’s a very tough place to go, Getafa have a lot at stake, when they sit deep it’s very hard, they are organised at the back.”
