Pedri scored his fourth goal of the season, extending FC Barcelona’s winning streak to six games in a row in all competitions since the start of the year.
Despite the victory, FC Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez was disappointed with his team’s performance and was not satisfied with his side’s win over Getafe.
“We didn’t play a great game, far from it,” he said. “We weren’t good. We’ve been a bit weak. We defended well. We didn’t play well. We didn’t play a great game, far from it. It’s an important victory, but we have to improve. We felt the fatigue, the mental effort of the Super Cup. We made a big effort. It’s a victory, but not a good one. Not the best game.”
Meanwhile, before the game, FC Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets was honoured for reaching the milestone of 700 games in the Catalans shirt. He has played 466 of those games in La Liga, trailing only his manager Xavi (505) and Lionel Messi (520). It was also his 100th game wearing the captain’s armband.
Barcelona will turn their attention to the Copa del Rey quarterfinals against Real Sociedad on Wednesday, before a local derby against Girona the following weekend.
