Morocco continued with their 100% winning record in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after beating Zambia 0-2 on Monday at the Levy Mwanawansa stadium in Ndola.
Goals by Youssef En Nesyri and Hamza Igamane in both halves respectively were enough to officially end Zambia slim chances of making it to the playoffs of the qualifiers.
Morocco has now beaten Zambia in all four of their last meetings across all competitions and will meet again at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations ( AFCON) where they are both in Group A alongside Comorros and Mali.
Speaking after the match, Morocco’s coach Walid Regragui said Zambia is always a tough opponent despite beating them on three occasions in a row.
“Every game against Zambia is a tough game. They are a good team, I remember [what they did] in 1994 at AFCON. They have fast players and I am a fan,” Regragui said.
He continued: “Every time is not an easy game of course, we win three times, but never disrespect your opponents, and that’s what we do every game against Zambia, because there is a big history between Morocco and Zambia.”
“Congratulations on the job for your players, and I hope you progress like Morocco Inshallah.”
Morocco tops the group with 21 points having won all seven of their matches to become the first team from Africa to qualify for the world cup. They will conclude their campaign with home match against Congo Brazzaville in October.
Zambia, on the other hand, sits third in the group with just six points behind second placed Tanzania who have ten points and hoping to secure qualification for the playoffs. They will conmclude the qualifiers with an away match against Tanzania and home game against Niger both to be played in October.
