The two have met twice before but will be meeting for the first time at a World Cup. USA won once and the other much ended in a draw.
Their most recent meeting, on 12 November 2020, ended goalless. USA beat Wales 2-0 on 26 May 2003.
FACTS
- USA successfully qualified from the group in each of their two most recent World Cup appearances at South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014 and have reached the knockout stage in four of their last six appearances
- USA have also only failed to score in one of their last ten World Cup matches
- Wales only know what it’s like to qualify for the knockout stage once they’re at a World Cup; in their only appearance in Sweden in 1958 they reached the quarter-finals to meet Brazil, whose teenage sensation named Pele helped knocked them out
- Wales have also qualified for the knockout stage in their only two UEFA EURO finals appearances
