Senegal football Association has been advised to consider traditional healers for Sadio Manè’s injury to ensure he plays in Qatar.
Mané suffered a tendon injury on Tuesday night during a Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen at home which saw him get subbed off after just 20 minutes on the pitch as Bayern Munich recorded a 6-1 win.
On Wednesday, L’EQIPE reported that the reigning African Champion will miss the 2022 FIFA Wolrd Cup due to injury after undergoing tests in Germany which set an initial recovery period of 3-4 weeks – automatically ruling out the him from Qatar World Cup.
But his club Bayern Munich revealed they are in contact with the Senegalese footballl association’s medical team and more tests will be conducted to further understand the extent of his injury.
“Sadio Mané has picked up an injury and he won’t be available for game against Schalke. Further tests will follow in the next few days — Bayern is in contact with the medical team of Senegalese Football Association,” the club has said in a statement.
However, a Senegalese senior official and FIFA secretary general Fatima Samoura told Europe 1 that the country will do everything possible for Mane to play in Qatar and they will consider traditional healers from his home country.
“We are going to use spiritual leaders. I don’t know [if they’re effective] but in this instance, we’re going to use them anyway. We are hoping for miracles. He has to be there!” he told Europe 1.
With coach Aliou Cisse set to announce his final World Cup squad on Tuesday next week, the Senegalese FA hopes the 2022 CAF player of the year will be fit on time.
There are only 10 days remaining before the Teranga Lions take on the Netherlands in their Group A opener at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
