French star Kylian Mbappé has overtaken Cristiano Ronaldo and equaled Lionel Messi in World Cup goals. This was after he scored a brace in the 3-1 victory over Poland to move his tally to nine goals in 11 World Cup matches.
He has surpassed Ronaldo, who scored eight goals in 20 matches, and matched Messi’s World Cup tally.
Mbappé said that he dreamed of winning the World Cup for a second time as the reigning world champions advanced to the quarterfinals.
“Of course, this world cup is an obsession for me; it’s the competition of my dreams, and I have built my season around this competition and being ready both physically and mentally for it,” he said.
He went on to say that he isn’t concerned with individual awards such as the Golden Ball, but that the main goal is to win the World Cup.

“The only objective for me is to win the World Cup, which means winning the quarterfinals; that is what I am dreaming of; I didn’t come here to win the Golden Ball,” he said. “That is not why I am here; I am here to win and help the French national team.”
Mbappé now has five goals in four games at the ongoing World Cup, making him the outright top scorer at the Qatar edition.
France, the reigning world champions, will face England in the quarterfinals on Saturday as they continue their title defense.
