Ghana has officially qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking their fifth appearance on football’s biggest stage.
The Black Stars booked their place after a decisive run in the African qualifiers, which concluded with a 1-0 win over Comoros on Sunday, joining Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Algeria as the first five nations from the continent to confirm their spots.
This qualification continues Ghana’s proud World Cup tradition, which began in 2006 when they made a historic debut in Germany before reaching the quarterfinals in South Africa in 2010 — Africa’s best performance at the time.
Their qualification means only four automatic slots remain for Africa, with several teams still in contention as the final round of matches approaches.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded 48-team format, giving Africa a record nine guaranteed slots plus one possible intercontinental playoff berth.
With Ghana’s confirmation, attention now shifts to which teams will claim the remaining four spots as the continent edges closer to completing its representation for the global showpiece.
