Morocco wins 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup

Atlas Cubs stun six-time champions Argentina to become only the second African nation to lift the trophy.

Morocco stunned Argentina in the final with a 2-0 win to lift the FIFA U-20 World Cup on Sunday. Yassir Zabiri scored both goals to lead Mohamed Ouahbi’s team to Africa’s first title since Ghana’s 2009 victory.

Argentina entered the match as heavy favourites. The Albiceleste had won six U-20 World Cups, losing only one final, while Morocco were playing their first. Argentina had won all six previous matches, scoring 15 goals and conceding two, but Morocco tore up the script in Santiago.

Zabiri was fouled early after racing through on goal and being brought down by goalkeeper Santino Barbi. Following a VAR review, Argentina escaped with only a yellow card and a free-kick. Zabiri stepped up and curled the ball into the top corner to put Morocco ahead.

Minutes later, Morocco doubled their lead. Ismael Baouf won possession and fed Othmane Maamma, who crossed for Zabiri to volley home his second goal.

Argentina pushed forward but couldn’t break down Morocco’s solid defence. Mateo Silvetti came close before halftime, and substitute Ian Subiabre missed a chance after the break, but Baouf, Fouad Zahouani and goalkeeper Ibrahim Gomis stood firm.

When the final whistle blew, Morocco celebrated a historic victory — their first FIFA U-20 World Cup title and Africa’s second ever.

It was also the first time in 42 years that Argentina lost a U-20 World Cup final, their first since Brazil beat them in 1983.

Final Score: Morocco 2–0 Argentina
Scorers: Zabiri (17’, 33’)
