FIFA’s Executive Director of Sales, Marketing and Communication for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Hassan Rabia Al Kuwari, said the official ticket resale platform will also enable ticket holders to sell their tickets if they want to.
Speaking to Qatar Radio on Monday, Al Kuwari said some fans might have purchased more tickets than they need and others are trying to get tickets for their favourite matches and as such the resale platform will be a great help for them.
“Some fans might have purchased more tickets than they need and others are trying to get tickets for their favourite matches. In these cases the Resale Platform will be a great help for them,” Al Kuwari said.
He said there was a huge demand for tickets with more than 40 million applications for tickets received at the beginning stage.
In the last stage, Al Kuwari disclosed that 2.5 million tickets have been sold.
“At the beginning stage when the registration opened, we received about 40 million applications for tickets. So far, in the last stage, about 2.5 million tickets have been sold.”
It is however worthwhile to note that fans across the globe as per the FIFA strategy, will be able to purchase tickets as they will be available throughout the tournament. But some matches might reach a ‘sold out’ stage due to high demand.
Al Kuwari encouraged fans, especially citizens and expatriates to take advantage of the avail opportunity and purchase tickets to participate in the mega event.
He urged fans to visit FIFA website to purchase tickets for their favorite match, adding that the tickets platform will remain operational until the end of the tournament.
Aside from the resale platform opening today, last-minute ticket sales phase opened on September 27 and will continue until the end of the tournament.
