Chipolopolo duo Kings Kangwa and Joseph Sabobo Banda suffered a 1-0 defeat with Hapoel Be’er Sheva against AEK Athens in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League qualifier in Greece.

Be’er Sheva will now aim to overturn the deficit in the return leg next week.

Kangwa played the full 90 minutes, while Sabobo remained an unused substitute.

The Israeli side is also recovering from Europa League heartbreak after being eliminated by Bulgaria’s Levski Sofia in a penalty shootout last Thursday.

Kangwa was one of three Be’er Sheva players who missed their spot-kicks, sealing the club’s fate.

The two-legged second qualifying round ended 1-1 on aggregate, with neither side able to find a winner in regulation or extra time, sending the match to penalties.
