Arsenal’s slip-up against Nottingham Forest on Saturday meant Manchester City won the 2022/23 Premier League season.

The Gunners lost 1-0 to Forest, who have since survived relegation.

City did not have to win against Chelsea on Sunday to win the Premier League as the Gunners’ loss was enough to clinch the title.

They are now only the fifth club in the history of English football to win three top-flight titles in a row after Huddersfield Town (1924-1926), Arsenal (1933-1935), Liverpool (1982-1984) and Manchester United (1999-2001 & 2007-2009).

The Citizens have won Premier League for the seventh time, despite having three games remaining.

It’s their fifth Premier League title in six seasons and the club’s 12th major trophy under Pep Guardiola, and they now have a chance to win a 13th when they meet Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley on June 3.

That encounter will be followed by a UEFA Champions League final against Inter on June 10, their second appearance in the final.

Arsenal dominated the first half of the Premier League but City came back stronger, leapfrogging the Gunners in the last quarter of the season.

The Gunners led the standings, despite having played more games, until the 32nd round of fixtures, when a 4-1 defeat at the hands of City transformed the narrative of the title battle and ultimately awarded City a seventh title.
