Liverpool striker Diogo Jota has tragically died at the age of 28 following a traffic accident in Spain early this morning, according to MARCA.
The fatal crash occurred at kilometre 65 of the A-52 highway, near the Zamora region of Sanabria. Jota was travelling with his brother, André Silva, a 26-year-old professional footballer from Penafiel, who also lost his life in the accident.
Reports indicate that their vehicle veered off the road and caught fire. According to MARCA, witnesses who called emergency services (112) said the car was engulfed in flames, which also spread to nearby vegetation.
This devastating news comes just days after Jota married his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso. The couple tied the knot on June 22 and were pictured with their three children: Denis (born 2021), Duarte (2023), and a daughter born in 2024 whose name has not yet been disclosed.

Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a €44.7 million move. During his time at Anfield, he made 182 appearances, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists. He won three major titles with the club: the Premier League (2024–25), FA Cup (2021–22), and EFL Cup (2021–22).
Earlier in his career, Jota had a brief stint with Atlético Madrid, who signed him from Paços de Ferreira in 2016 for €7 million. He featured in a friendly against Crotone but never made a competitive appearance. That same summer, he was loaned to FC Porto and later to Wolverhampton, before joining the English side permanently in 2018 for €14 million.
