Liverpool have clinched their 20th top-flight English league title following a commanding 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday.
Arne Slot’s Reds now sit on 82 points, making it mathematically impossible for Mikel Artetaโs Arsenal to catch them, with four games remaining.
This triumph sees Liverpool equal Manchester Unitedโs total of 20 top-flight English titles.
It also marks Slotโs first trophy since succeeding Jurgen Klopp, who famously guided Liverpool to their first Premier League title after a 30-year wait.
Club captain Virgil van Dijk reflected on the achievement, celebrating the clubโs first Premier League crown since 2020.
“It’s special and it’s something that we don’t take for granted. It’s amazing,” Van Dijk said following the win over Spurs.
“A lot of emotions before the game, during the whole week, but we got the job done and we are truly deserved champions of England. The most beautiful club in the world, and I think we deserve all of this. Let’s enjoy the next couple of weeks and let it sink in.”
Liverpool had established a six-point lead over Arsenal (with a game in hand) before the turn of the new year.
Although both sides faltered at times in the months that followed, it was the Reds who ultimately held their nerve to secure the title.
Manchester City were also in contention but faded from the race after suffering a 2-0 defeat at Anfield on Christmas Eve.
Recent weeks have been especially positive for Liverpool, with captain Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah both signing new contracts to extend their stays at Anfield.
Salah has been in sensational form, recording 28 goals and 18 assists this Premier League season. He is the clear favourite to be named Player of the Season and remains a top contender for the Ballon d’Or.
Salahโs 28th goal today also lifted him to fifth on the Premier Leagueโs all-time scorers list, with 185 goals.
Liverpoolโs latest triumph is their second Premier League title in six seasons, taking their total to a record-extending 70 major honours.
