Newcastle is still winless following their 5-1 victory over Aston Villa, thanks to a brace from Darwin Nunez, who also spurred 10-man Liverpool to a comeback victory.
Liverpool was looking for their second victory of the year to be on the same pace as the top three teams in the Premier League after three matchdays: Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham.
Virgil Van Dijk’s straight red card and the hosts’ Anthony Gordon’s opening goal in the 25th minute put Liverpool in a precarious position before the halftime break.
The Reds leveled matters in the 81st through Darwin Nunez, four minutes after he was brought on for Alexis Mac Allister.
The home team struggled against the Uruguayan because they couldn’t keep up with his pace.
He then capitalized on a Mohammed Salah assist in the 18-yard area to score the game-winning goal in the final seconds of extra time from close range.
