The Premier League’s first Monday night clash of the new season sees Leeds United return to the top flight with a home test against a reshaped Everton side. Both clubs enter the campaign with plenty of intrigue surrounding them.

Leeds: Back in the Premier League

Back in the Premier League after two years away, Leeds rejoined the big stage in style by winning the Championship title ahead of Burnley. Determined to avoid another quick drop, boss Daniel Farke has added reinforcements, most notably bringing in former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer.

Much of the squad that stormed to promotion remains intact, and with just one defeat in their last 28 league fixtures (W19, D8), Leeds should approach this opener with confidence.

Everton: Entering a New Era

Everton, meanwhile, enter a new era. This summer marked their move away from Goodison Park to the brand-new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Long-serving manager David Moyes has reshaped the squad with six signings, including headline arrivals Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea and Jack Grealish on loan from Manchester City. However, the Toffees’ pre-season form was poor, as they failed to win any of their six friendlies (D2, L4).

Head-to-Head Record

Recent history favors Everton. Leeds have managed just one victory in their last 11 Premier League meetings with the Toffees (D4, L6). On top of that, Everton are unbeaten in their last five league visits to Elland Road — their longest active run of avoiding defeat at any current Premier League ground

Hot Stats

  • Leeds’ last eight league openers have seen a remarkable 39 goals in total (4.9 per game).
  • Everton have lost their opening fixture three years in a row.

Best Bet
