The 242nd Merseyside derby held a lot of promise, with Liverpool desperate to get back on track against their cross-city rivals.
The Toffees, on the other hand, were looking to build on their previous win against league leaders Arsenal.
However, Liverpool easily defeated them at Anfield on Monday night. Jurgen Klopp’s men claimed all three points thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.
The Reds’ commanding performance in the derby ended a four-game league winless streak.

Klopp praised his players’ fighting spirit and said their performance was the best he had seen in a long time.
He described the win as a “relief’ after losing two matches consecutively.
“Relieved, that was the main feeling since the final whistle, it was necessary we played the game we wanted to play and not the game Everton wanted to play,” he said.
When asked about Cody Gakpo’s performance, Klopp complimented the Dutch forward.
“He did extremely well under massive pressure in the center,” he answered. “In the end, it was not the most difficult goal he ever scored, but it is exactly the goal each striker is dreaming of when it didn’t happen for a while, probably.”
With the win over Everton, Klopp has now won 250 games in charge of Liverpool faster than any other manager in the club’s history. He has also won a total of seven trophies in 414 games.
Liverpool are now sitting 9th in the league standings with 32 points. They will face Newcastle, while Everton will face managerless Leeds United this weekend.
