After failing to secure a victory for the first time in two consecutive games this season, Mikel Arteta’s men were undoubtedly eager to bounce back to winning ways and stay at the summit of the English Premier League table after Manchester City briefly occupied that spot following their 1-0 victory over Leicester City on Saturday.
Nottingham Forest were rich in confidence after beating Liverpool in their last Premier League encounter but it was Arsenal that took the lead with only five minutes played after Martinelli headed the ball into the net after an accurate delivery from Saka who would eventually leave the field of play early after sustaining an injury.
The first half finished with the scoreline at 1-0 as Nottingham Forest had very little to show in attack but did brilliantly to keep the scoreline at the minimum as they handled Arsenal’s avalanche of threats on goal.
The second stanza was a different scenario as the Gunners came out guns blazing.
Substitute Reiss Nelson was in a rich vein of form as he cooly despatched two of Arsenal’s threats on goal shortly after the restart.
The first one came after a well-worked counterattack as Gabriel Jesus found the English forward who danced his way around the opposition’s defence, his initial attempt was saved but he made no mistake with the rebound.
It was the same combination when Arsenal got their third as Nelson scored his second after a neat exchange of passes, there was nothing the Nottingham Keeper could do to stop that one.
Reiss Nelson turned into a provider as Thomas Partey scored the goal of the game with a ferocious and precise first-time hit outside the 18.
The Gunners would cap off their five-start performance when skipper Martin Odegaard received a pass from Jesus and sent a thunderous strike into the left corner.
With only two games remaining in the Premier League before the 6-week long break due to the World Cup, the Gunners will be buzzing with confidence as they travel to Stanford Bridge where they will face their archnemesis Chelsea while leading the Premier League table with 31 points after 12 games so far this season.
