  • The Blues are yet to lose a match under new manager Graham Potter.
  • Mason Mount becomes the youngest player at 23 years and 279 days, to score 25 Premier League goals for Chelsea,

Aston Villa’s struggles continue as Chelsea salvaged an away victory against Steve Gerrard’s men.

Chelsea who are now four-placed on the Premier League table went into the fixture with an attempt to try and continue their winning streak in the league to four games in which they succeeded.

The blues have won all their last four Premier League matches.

It did not take long for the visitors to silence the home crowd as Mason Mount scored with only 6 minutes played after an error from Mings who couldn’t quite clear the ball with his head, leaving Argentine keeper Martinez completely stranded as Mount made no mistake from close range.

Before the afternoon’s showpiece, Aston Villa’s only solitary victory in the past 10 league meetings between the two teams came at home on the final day of the 2020-21 season. It was going to be a difficult afternoon for Gerrards men.

Graham Potter’s men however, continued to exert pressure in search of their second goal but they couldn’t quite unlock Villa’s defence on two occasions and therefore the game went into half time with the scoreline at 1-0.

As Potter’s reign gathers momentum, its worth nothing that the Blues haven’t lost a game after winning all their last five matches across all competitions.

They continued to enjoy majority of the ball while doing brilliantly in stopping Aston Villa from breaking into a counter attack with Kepa Arrizabalaga making seven saves— the most saves without conceding in his top-flight league career.

Mount doubled his goal tally in the game with a wickedly dipping free-kick from the left side of the area, over 20 yards out from goal to become the youngest player at 23 years and 279 daya, to score 25 Premier League goals for Chelsea, after Eden Hazard achieved the feat at 23 years 271 days.

Mount did just about enough to find the back of the net twice for the blues which was enough to grab all three points as the game ended 2-0 in favour of the visitors.
