English Premier League side, Chelsea football club on Wednesday morning announced, the sacking of German coach Thomas Tuchel after only a season at the club.
This came a night after the Blues suffered a humiliating defeat in the Champions League to Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia in their group E opener which ended 1-0.
Despite the club investing a Premier League record of £273m in one window to reinforce Tuchel’s squad this summer with the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyang, Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella, they started the English Premier League season poorly, losing two consecutive matches, drawing one and winning three to sit 6th on the log standings with 10 points.
Tuchel spent only 350 days as Chelsea boss but became the first manager in the club’s history to guide the Blues to the final of each of the League Cup, FA Cup and European Cup/UEFA Champions League.
However, Sky Sports reports that new Chelsea owners led by Todd Boehly believe they ‘had a very good window and a new manager will bring even more out of the players. They had concerns for some time and have been looking at other options. Now they want a long-term appointment to move Chelsea forward, who is closely aligned with their vision for the club.’
Meanwhile recent reports indicate that Chelsea have made contacts with Brighton & Hove Albion coach Graham Potter while former PSG and Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino has been proposed to Todd Boehly as an option, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Bolanews also understands that the club owners don’t want to waste time finding Thomas Tuchel’s replacement as they believe they have made enough quality signings which should be easy for the new coach to settle and bring the best out of the squad.
Potter helped Brighton and Hove Albion finish in 9th position last season in the English Premier league and has continued with an impressive run at Albion as they are currently sitting 4th on the log standings with 13 points in 6 matches.
He has recorded only one defeat so far this season, 2-1 against Fulham, but has beaten Manchester United 1-2, West Ham 0-2, Leeds 1-0, Leicester City 5-2 and only drew 0-0 with Newcastle United.
It remains to be seen if Graham Potter will accept the offer from Chelsea and leave a Brighton side that he has grouped and now become a competitive Premier League club in the last four years of his time at the club.
