Premier League side Brentford sporting director Phil Giles says, “it is not a given” that striker Bryan Mbeumo will leave the club this summer despite the strong interest from Manchester United.
United have reportedly seen two bids rejected for the Cameroonian, who enjoyed a breakout season in the Premier League, registering 20 goals and 7 assists in just 38 appearances.. Mbeumo’s performances have sparked attention not just from Old Trafford, but other clubs have been linked to him too.
The player is reported to favour a move to Old Trafford.
“His [Mbeumo] current preference has been well publicised,” Giles said in an interview with Sky Sports. “He had an unbelievable season, and we expected interest in him.”
The Cameroonian international has one year left on his contract, and while Brentford are open to negotiating, they are clear: the deal must be on their terms.
“Our position is he had an unbelievable season last year,” Giles added. “We expect an interest in him. If that deal is right, then we will do the deal. If not, he will stay.”
Giles confirmed that the club has had conversations with Mbeumo and his representatives, and while they are not ruling out a move, nothing is imminent.
“We have spoken to Bryan and his representatives. It’s not a given that he’s going to depart this summer,” he said. “If we get the right offer, potentially a deal will be done.”
