Manchester United continued their impressive pre-season form with a commanding 4-1 win over Premier League rivals Bournemouth in their second match of the Premier League Summer Series in the United States.
Goals from Rasmus Højlund, Patrick Dorgu, Amad Diallo, and Ethan Williams helped Ruben Amorim’s side maintain a perfect start to their 2025–26 preparations.
United struck early for the second consecutive match, with Højlund heading home a Dorgu cross in the eighth minute. The Denmark international, who had a difficult season last term, looked sharp and earned praise from his manager post-match.
Dorgu doubled the lead in the 25th minute with a composed finish, before Diallo made it 3-0 eight minutes into the second half. Ruben Amorim then made nine substitutions in the 71st minute, and academy graduate Ethan Williams found the net just a minute after coming on.
Bournemouth pulled one back through a Matthijs de Ligt own goal late in the match, but were second-best throughout—a stark contrast to their 3-0 win at Old Trafford last December.
Amorim pleased with progress
Despite the dominant performance, Amorim played down the result, focusing instead on the tactical growth of the team.
“It was a good performance. I think the intensity was there again. We improved something—we had longer possession than the last game. The lads are hearing what we are trying to do.”
United have now scored in the opening eight minutes of both of their pre-season matches—Bruno Fernandes in the fifth minute against West Ham and Højlund in the eighth against Bournemouth—something Amorim sees as a positive sign.
“Was a good day, good test in pre-season. Now we have more two games to prepare before the first one. It’s really important – it gives confidence. We are starting games by scoring and that can give confidence to win games.”
Manchester United will next face Everton in their final Summer Series fixture on Sunday, before returning to England to take on Fiorentina in a final friendly.
The Red Devils will kick off their 2025–26 Premier League season at home to Arsenal on 17 August.
