Fridah Kabwe stole the show with a hat-trick for Zambia’s women’s national team, which cruised to the semifinals of the 2023 Cosafa Women’s Championship with a 5-1 win over Comoros in their final group B match.
The 25-year-old Zesco Ndola Girls striker scored her first international goal just 19 minutes into the game to put the Copper Queens ahead, but her goal was cancelled out by Mohamed Roukia in the 42nd minute, bringing the first half to a 1-1 tie.
The Zambian ladies came out firing in the second half, with Fridah scoring again in the 59th minute before captain Lushomo Mweemba slotted home the Copper Queens’ third goal a minute later.
When it appeared that the Copper Queens were done for the day, Fridah found herself unmarked in the Comoros half and completed her hat-trick in the 74th minute.
Chaos ensued for the Comoros ladies, who committed a foul in the box, and Zambia won a penalty, which Sarah Jere calmly put behind the net in the 86th minute, extending the score to 5-1.
