The Zambia under-20 national team has won their 12th COSAFA cup after beating defending champions Mozambique 1-0 in the final on Sunday afternoon.
The young Chipolopolo boys found the back of the net in the 35th minute through Kingstone Mutandwa and it was enough to take home the Cosafa cup.
The win also meant Zambia finished unbeaten in the competition having won all their group-stage matches and edged Angola 3-2 on post-match penalties in the semifinals.
They also booked a place at the 2023 Egypt U-20 Africa cup of nations and will be joined by Mozambique as Southern Africa’s representatives.
Zambia will be returning to the AFCON after missing the last two editions having last participated in the competition in 2017 when they hosted and won it on home soil with a team which comprised the likes of Leicester city striker Patson Daka, Fashion Sakala, as well as retired midfielder Enock Mwepu, among other stars who are now key members of the senior Chipolopolo squad.
